Nurse Educators of Illinois , INC.
40 YEARS OF INCORPORATION
IT WAS ON FEBRUARY 9, 1959 that Charles F. Carpentier, Illinois Secretary of State signed the articles of incorporation recognizing the Illinois League for Nursing (ILN) as a Not For Profit Organization.
As stated in the Articles of Incorporation, "the object of this organization shall be to foster the development and improvement of hospital, industrial, public health, and other organized nursing services and of nursing education through the coordinated action of nurses, allied professional groups, and other citizens to the end that the nursing needs of the people will be met."
THE HISTORY OF THE ILN actually began on October 10, 1952 when the first organizational meeting was held in Springfield, IL. At this meeting, Emily Cardew, who was the coordinator of affiliation programs in nursing at the University of Illinois, was elected ILN’s first President. The first board meeting was held on November 5, 1952. Membership was approximately 700. Over the years the membership has fluctuated from a low of 300 to a high of 1400.
Since the time of its organization, the ILN has been recognized as one of the leaders of nursing in the state. Over the years, the ILN has been involved in many nursing projects, offered numerous workshops and programs, and impacted legislation in order to meet the nursing needs of the public. Since 1952, the ILN has cooperated in program and project development with many other nursing and allied health organizations. ILN has spearheaded many programs to meet the needs of nurses from all levels of nursing education and areas of nursing service.
On August 17, 2004 the ILN was dissolved and a new corporation in the name of Nurse Educators of Illinois was formed as a not for profit corporation.
